This past Saturday, March 28, Callie Allison, a student worker for the Department of Communication, and Breanna Harris presented at the 45th Annual Student Research Conference, REACH Week. Their presentation, Building a COMMunity, discussed the Department of Communication’s endeavor to communicate ideas effectively on social media. Their presentation compared current purposes for individual and organizational uses of social media to the Department’s purposes for utilizing social media by analyzing the purpose and audience of each platform. Finally, their presentation connected the Department of Communication’s purposes for utilizing social media to its long term goals.
In each section at REACH Week, there are six presentations. Out of these six, one presentation is selected as the overall winner based on effectiveness, preparedness, and overall presentation skills. Building a COMMunity was selected as the overall winner for their section. This presentation effectively communicated the importance of social media in today’s professional world by outlining the Department of Communication’s effort to create an online presence.
