Dr. Larry Long, Professor and Director Emeritus from the School of Communication at Illinois State University, visited WKU to conduct a Strategic Planning Session with faculty and staff of the Department of Communication on January 20-21, 2015. Everyone was divided into four groups to discuss issues aligned with the University 5 year plan concerning: 1) fostering academic excellence, 2) promoting a dynamic and diverse university community, 3) improving quality of life for our communities, and 4) Supporting the core mission with a robust campus infrastructure.
The purpose of the exercises performed during the two-day planning session, was to plan for the next stage of our growth as a team through developing a strategic plan. This plan and the work that went into creating it, will give department members a guide to implementing the goals established, and allowed all members to have input into each category involved. The action steps determined will begin in February, and will affect the departments’ plans for the next three to five years.
